Original Stormy Kromer Cap
Still made in the U.S.A.
In 1903, semi-pro baseball player and railroad engineer George “Stormy” Kromer got tired of losing his hat to the bitter winter wind and asked his wife Ida to sew flaps on an old baseball cap to protect his neck and ears. And so their story began.
They developed a six-panel cap with a higher crown, a pull-down ear band to keep it snug and a soft, cloth visor. The little Wisconsin company saw great growth through the mid-1950s, but with the declining railroad industry came a decrease in sales. In 2001, a new owner and a move to Milwaukee breathed new life into the company and today, well over 110 years later, these caps are still being hand stitched in America using the same authentic materials and methods as the original. The iconic cap has become legendary for comfort and fit.
