Desert Ironwood African Big 5 Cats
Both are carved from a solid piece of one of the most beautiful hardwoods in the world, what we know as Desert Ironwood (Olneya Tesota). Wood is gathered from naturally fallen trees and through long hours of carving, hand sanding and polishing, the beautiful burl and distinctive grain inherent to Ironwood appears. The unfinished backside shows the natural structure of the wood. Includes a Certificate of Authenticity. Weighs about 2 lbs. Polish with a soft cloth and occasionally apply a light coat of neutral paste-type shoe wax. Hand carved in Mexico.
With its massive mane, raw power and deafening roar, the Lion is considered by many to be the best of the Big 5 simply because of the real danger involved in the hunt. Ambush hunters, they live in the savanna where natural cover allows them to stalk and creep close to the prey. Unpredictable, they do not usually avoid confrontation and will face a challenger. The bust measures 5-1/2" x 6-1/4" x 5-1/2".
Considered the most difficult to hunt because of their nocturnal and secretive nature, the leopard is solitary by nature and is most active between sunset and sunrise. Very wary of humans, in the face of danger, it will take flight. Stalking its prey with extreme stealth, it can often get within 10´ of its target, undetected, before pouncing. The bust measures 4-3/4" x 6-1/8" x 6-3/8".
