Product Details

The Hudson’s Bay Company has sold point marked blankets from their founding in 1670. I bought my first Hudson’s Bay blankets about 1956 at the Abercrombie & Fitch store in San Francisco. They were the finest wool blankets I had ever owned and for over 20 years I have regretted their loss. These throws are the same material and construction found in those blankets, just reduced in size. They are still loomed in England with a mix of wools from many types of sheep to give the best warmth and an ability to shed water better than other materials. Their design was popular with the native peoples of North America because they provided excellent camouflage during the winter. Those with stripes of indigo, green, red and yellow, were referred to as “chief’s blankets” and were apparently first introduced during the early 1800s.
