Elephant & Lion Scrimed Zippo Lighters
First produced in 1933, Zippo® Lighters are still manufactured in Bradford, Pennsylvania as they have been from the beginning and have become highly collectible. The three lighters we are introducing are embellished with scrimshaw art by an artist in Massachusetts. The work begins using the same methods that sailors used on bone and ivory hundreds of years ago.
For each of these lighters, the artist created an original which was scrimed by hand as those early artists would have done. A silicone mold was made of that hand-engraved original. The onlays for each lighter were then cast using a polyethylene resin engineered to closely resemble the color and finish of genuine ivory and sanded to a specific thickness. The lines of the drawings were then filled with ink and the surface hand-rubbed to a high polish. These hand-detailing techniques result in a finished piece that rivals the beauty of traditional scrimshaw.
These African-themed lighters representing a resting Lion and a charging Bull Elephant on the bottom case and Acacia trees on the lid, measure 2-1/4" x 1-1/2" x 1/2". The lighter cases are stainless steel. They do NOT ship with fuel. Made in the U.S.A.
