Elk Decanter and Glasses Set
The medallions are "Fine Pewter", a mixture of over 90% tin with antimony or bismuth. Unlike antique and lower quality modern pewter, there is no lead used in this material. It is, therefore, perfectly safe for use with food. The medallion artist, Master Engraver and Wildlife Artist Franz Marktl, came to the United States from Austria over forty years ago. Even then his engraving was highly sought after the world over. Each master engraving begins with a detailed drawing that is then transferred onto a thick sheet of sterling silver. The artist uses handmade tools to remove bits of metal, sculpting every detail. A special mold is then made at the foundry to faithfully reproduce the intricacy of the engraving.
We have chosen the majestic elk as the subject matter for this set. Posturing, antler wrestling and bugling, all part of the ritualized mating behavior of male elk, establishes dominance over other males and attracts cows. The bugling sound is like no other in nature. A familiar sight and sound on crisp fall mornings high in the Rocky Mountains. The Decanter holds 24 oz. Each double old-fashioned glass holds 12 oz.
