Scrimed Falcon on Buffalo Horn
Unique and one-of-a-kind, the concept for this design was created in Canada and each piece is hand-carved in Laos from horns recovered from water buffalo that have been raised for food consumption. The artist carefully selects the horn that is best suited to fit the design. The horn is sanded, polished and buffed with a jeweler’s paste to give it a polished black finish. The artist will then hand etch the finished design into the surface of the horn to give the details, color contrasts and depth. Each piece will have it’s own distinct shape, size and natural markings.
A bird of prey, the falcon kills with their beak, have exceptional powers of vision and have been recorded diving at speeds of 200 mph, making it the fastest moving creature on Earth. Affixed to a wooden base, this representation of that magnificant bird measures 7-3/4" x 3-1/8" wide x 2-1/8" deep.
