On the endangered species list, the snow leopard is native to the mountain ranges of Central Asia. It's long thick fur has a base color that varies from smoky gray to yellowish tan, with whitish fur underneath and dark gray to black rosettes. The long flexible tail, covered with especially thick fur, helps to maintain their balance in a habitat of steep, rocky snow covered cliffs with minimal heat loss. Reclusive by nature, they are mostly active at dawn and dusk and are rarely seen in the wild.
