Lockheed Constellation 1945 Model Plane
Between 1943 and 1958, Lockheed built 856 planes in various models, all with the tripletail design and a dolphin-shaped fuselage. The sleek and powerful Constellations (‘Connie') set numerous speed and distance records despite frequent engine problems. Because of that, it was jokingly referred to as the most reliable three engine aircraft. It was propeller driven with four engines, hydraulically boosted controls and a de-icing system used on wing and tail leading edges. The elegant appearance was the result of no two bulkheads being the same shape or size. Used for both military (C-69) and civilian air transport, the Constellation saw service in the Bianfran and Berlin airlifts and was in the service of TWA, Eastern Airline, Pan American World Airways and Air France. Three of them served as the presidential aircraft of Dwight D. Eisenhower.
This realistic 1:50 scale model uses corrugated aluminum sheeting over fir and plywood framing. Built with impressive, high quality construction and great attention to detail. The placard on the display stand reads – "Constellation 1945, Four 2200 hp engines, 123' wingspan, 86,250 lbs., 313 mph, 3995 range, 4 pilots, 4 flight attendants and 60-81 passengers". Requires minimal assembly (detailed instructions are included). The model wingspan is 29-1/2" and it measures 27" nose to tail. Weighs 9 lbs. 7 oz.
