African Big 5 - Cape Buffalo
Cape Buffalo Desert Ironwood Sculpture
A distinguished member of the African Big Five, the Cape Buffalo is a highly sought after trophy. Its characteristic feature is its horns that have fused together to form a continuous bone shield across the top of its head, often referred to as a 'boss'. Having never been domesticated and extremely unpredictable in nature, it is widely regarded as a very dangerous animal and is known to gore and kill hundreds of people every year. With few predators other than humans, lions and large crocodiles, this mighty beast is very capable of defending itself.
Hand carved from a solid piece of one of the most beautiful hardwoods in the world, what we know as Desert Ironwood (Olneya Tesota). This tree grows primarily in the Sonoran Desert. Wood is gathered from naturally fallen trees and through long hours of carving, hand sanding and polishing, the beautiful burl and distinctive grain inherent to Ironwood appears. Since the wood is a natural material, there will be differences in the wood grain and in the carving itself, making each sculpture truly unique and one-of-a kind. Includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
Each measures approximately 8-3/4" x 5-1/4" x 7-1/2" tall. Weighs about 3 lbs. 7 oz. Polish with a soft cloth and occasionally apply a light coat of neutral paste-type shoe wax.
