Stone River Ceramic Blade & Sandalwood Scales
Stone River™ Gear has been in the forefront of ceramic bladed knife production for several years. Most of their folders have had molded plastic, G-10 or Titanium handles. You will find very few of their knives offered with natural handle materials. Since 2012, we have had this same folder with Maple Burl scales, but several months ago decided to introduce a new wood. From multiple samples, we selected the red Sandalwood.
The 2-3/4" drop point blade is black Zirconium Oxide, a very hard ceramic also known as Zirconia. Zirconia powder is compacted using extremely high pressure, then fired using a process similar to that used in the firing of any type of ceramic material. The handle is a nicely figured burl over black stainless steel liners. This is a liner-style locking knife with a black-coated pocket clip. Measures 4" closed. Weighs 2.0 oz. Made in China.
Most users cannot sharpen ceramic blades. However, each knife is razor sharp out of the box and meticulously edged to provide years of service, with normal use, without the need for sharpening. To accommodate the rare need for sharpening, simple instructions for returning a knife to the manufacturer for professional sharpening are provided with the delivery of each knife.
